What If An Ump Taught Yasiel Puig How To Bat Flip?

It’s hot where I am right now, really hot, so let me do something fun and silly and lightweight here. Who doesn’t love Yasiel Puig bat flips, right? Literally no one*.  Via Deadspin, it turns out that extends to MLB The Show, where if you “hold onto the ball on the mound and leave the game unpaused for more than 30 seconds,” the umpire will actually take Puig’s bat away from him and show him the proper way to bat flip, which I suppose is the kind that won’t annoy Brian McCann or something. Either way, this is awesome, and I would give every dollar I have for this to happen in real life.

*No one cool or worth mentioning.

Are there any highly sought after international FA's that we should watch out/hope for?

Mike,

giants fans are neither cool (except to themselves) or worth mentioning. So forgive me for mentioning that I'm surrounded by them. I can say unequivocally that they hate everything about our Puig, especially the bat flip.

Is Puig playing against the cardinals in that video? What if this phenomenon only happens when he's playing against teams the play 'the right way' that would make it about 100X more awesome than it already is.

is a $205K bonus enough to suggest that they expect he might turn into a star...or is it more of a nod in the direction of he could become a semi-productive utility type player...I don't know how to interpret this international signing.

Not to bring up a sore subject, but what do we do when Vin Scully dies?  Well fear not, i have an idea!  The Scullybot 5000.  We take everything he's ever said on a broadcast and collect it and edit it so he can continue doing the play by play. Orel can be there to do the analysis and pronounce the names.  But this way he will never die and we can have him forever!!!  What do you say? Do we start the kickstarter now?  I have a team of sound and computer engineers ready to work. Scuyllybot will also be available on Android and iOS to do play by play for your Sunday League games.

Injuries are part of the game....I don't understand your point about the training staff.

@ABSmileBunch If it is true, I wish SCE would've put the time into the extremely repetitive commentary rather than this randomly sort of amusing easter egg.

@ABSmileBunch I wouldn't overthink it unless someone gets a bonus of $1m or more. It's so much a crapshoot at this age. I think Urias got $450k.

@ReleaseTheKraken64 there are games when the dodgers are sucking (last night for example) and its late for me (central time), but i force myself to watch/listen to the whole game because i am scared to death of when Vinny wont be there anymore.

One of the first things we should do is shoot Steiner out of a cannon from home plate. This should keep him from taking over, but we need to aim the cannon so he only hits the warning track.

@ReleaseTheKraken64 Fuck man, really? What do we do when the Sun exhausts it's energy supply? Or if there's a gamma burst headed right for us, large enough to bypass our solar systems magnetic shield?

@moneynow27  @P_F_P Injuries are part of the game, but the Dodgers do a terrible job of managing them. The Dodgers are near the top of the list of "Days lost to DL" rankings every year, and that obviously doesn't take into account all the days lost to injured, but not on the DL (like Hanley right now). The Dodgers also seem to have a huge problem with players coming back too soon and re-injuring themselves (like Uribe before his recent DL stint), taking much longer to recover than originally estimated (like Crawford right now), mis-diagnosing injuries (like Billingsley's flexor tendon troubles), and generally making dumb injury-related decisions (like Billingsley being allowed to pitch with a torn UCL last year or signing Jason Schmidt despite horrible medical reports on his shoulder).

@P_F_P @moneynow27

We all talked about this yesterday.  In spite of what others may think, Hanley has a say in what happens to him.  The team can only react to how he feels, responds to treatment, diagnostic tests, etc.   At the end of the day, Hanley has to agree to go on the DL....

@moneynow27  @P_F_P well no. no he does not. i said it is likely that he's a part of the convo, and may be manipulating it, he does not have to like it. they could just do it.
