Podcast: ‘Dugout Blues’ episode 124 – Greinke, Turner, prospects, July 2

On this episode of “Dugout Blues,” Jared Massey (Dodgers Nation) and I are back after missing last week due to Father’s Day. Thanks, Dad.

Contrary to popular belief, the Dodgers are in fact in first place and the world has not ended. It’s hard to believe, but it’s a fact.

Zack Greinke is pitching really well, like he wants a big payday this winter. Here’s hoping the Dodgers figure out a way to hold onto him.

Clayton Kershaw is still good, no matter what his ERA might tell you. If he would just stop giving up home runs, he’d be a lot better (#analysis).

Yasiel Puig is the worst, unless he isn’t. Justin Turner is the best, unless he … nah, he’s the best. Jared contends he came up with the “Ginger Jesus” moniker, but I give full credit to Chad for that one. Speaking of how bad Jared is, watch our for a Game of Thrones spoiler that he doesn’t preface with “spoiler alert.” Just a heads-up because Jared is teh suck.

Some good performers on the farm include Grant Holmes, Leonardo Crawford and Jared Walker. Some injured performers on the farm include Hector Olivera. Doesn’t bode well for his chances of significantly contributing this year, but he should still be up in August(ish).

July 2 is Thursday! The Dodgers’ already-strong farm system is going to get even stronger with the projected signings of Yadier Alvarez (profile of him up here tomorrow), Lucius Fox, Jr. (profile of him up here, hopefully, Wednesday), Eddy Julio Martinez, Starling Heredia (read more on him here) and Ronny Brito — just to name a few. The Dodgers passing on Yoan Moncada is the reason they’re able to sign all these top international talents. This is going to be crazy (good).

Finally, if you’re still listening, a strong Q&A session fueled by your questions. Keep ’em coming!
