Podcast: ‘Dugout Blues’ episode 141 – Trade, Iwakuma, free agents, more

On what is likely the last new episode of “Dugout Blues” this year, Jared Massey (Dodger Blue) and are back after missing last week because nothing happened at the Winter Meetings. I was as shocked as you were.

The Dodgers made a trade! It broke this site for a few hours, but they still made a trade, sending Jose Peraza, Scott Schebler and Brandon Dixon to the Reds as part of the 3-way trade with the White Sox. They received Micah Johnson, Frankie Montas and Trayce Thompson in return. All in all, a good trade for LA.

The Dodgers signed Hisashi Iwakuma, until they didn’t. He failed his physical and re-upped with Seattle. We didn’t like losing the draft pick for him, but he would have been a pretty addition to the rotation. Oh well, onto the next.

There are a few guys to stay away from on the free agent market, including Yovani Gallardo, Mike Leake and, to a lesser extent, Wei-Yin Chen.

The coaching staff has been named. They’re all solid choices and Gabe Kapler returning to his front office role is what’s best for the organization right now. Also, Greg Maddux might be joining in some capacity, so that’s good!

Finally, we close with a Q&A. Good ones this week, please keep them coming.
