Finally: Dodgers Announce SNLA Launch Date And Team

Nearly a full year after SportsNet LA was announced, we finally have a launch date — February 25 — and a broadcast team. Though many of these names have slipped out over the last few months, the team has confirmed via press release that this is how the game broadcasts will run.

Television

Games in California, Arizona — Vin Scully, obviously
Other games, play-by-play — Charley Steiner
Other games, colorOrel Hershiser
Other games, sideline reporter — Alanna Rizzo

Pre- and post-game: Nomar Garciaparra & Jerry Hairston, plus Hershiser for Scully games

Studio host: John Hartung

J.P. Hoornsta adds that the previous location for the pre-game show out in center field is gone, with plans to build a set much closer to the dugout.

Radio

Scully games — Charley Steiner, Rick Monday
Other games — Monday, Nomar Garciaparra

No, I still can’t tell if you’ll be able to actually see this network, not until the usual carriage fights are resolved. But this is a pretty good start — anyone is better than Steve Lyons & Eric Collins — and the previous announcement that they plan to broadcast all the spring training games is just phenomenal. All that, and we have no idea what else they’ll air. (YES, for example, often airs “Yankeeography“.) It’s a pretty exciting moment, and not just for the billions of dollars this pumps into the team.
