Dodgers @ Pirates July 23, 2014: Unsure If Hanley Ramirez Still Exists

Let’s update the “Hanley Ramirez run of games missed,” shall we? I should probably just link you to the last time I did this rather than using up a lot of space on what’s become an increasingly long list. And yet! I’m doing it anyway.

You’ll notice, of course, that today is included, as he (and Yasiel Puig) are again out of the lineup. This time is a little different, because I’m not actively calling for him to be DL’d, yet, anyway, because while it sounds less than clear that he can start tomorrow in San Francisco, he should at least be available during the series. (He is not expected to be available tonight; Puig is.) It just goes to show you the insane amount of time that he’s been unavailable for so many different things. I’ve listed 32 days up there, 28 of which the Dodgers played a game. He started just 12 of them, and was unable to finish four of them with injuries. Not that I’m blaming him for feeling less than 100 percent after Carlos Martinez and Trevor Rosenthal hit him, of course; far from it. It’s just that with every missed day, his likely free agent take continues to drop. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad.

Anyway, the Pirates have issues of their own; Pedro Alvarez sits again with the sore knee that took him out of last night’s game, and Starling Marte heads to the disabled list with a concussion. Oh, and Dan Haren is pitching and that’s not at all a big thing considering how bad Josh Beckett was last night and that the trade deadline is looming. Nope, no pressure there. Remember, though, that the reason he started the first game in St. Louis was to line up Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, and Hyun-jin Ryu for the big series in San Francisco this week. I like that thinking.
