D’Backs @ Dodgers June 10, 2015: Alex Guerrero Isn’t a Third Baseman, Unless He Is

So that’s a lineup, right? With Justin Turner‘s knee still sore, that’s about as good as you could hope for, no?

I know, I know. “But Alberto Callaspo over Alex Guerrero.” I get that. But I also get wanting the better glove when Brett Anderson is on the mound, given Anderson’s propensity for grounders. Guerrero hasn’t played third since May 24, anyway. Though he hadn’t looked like a total disaster to my eye, it seems apparent that the team just doesn’t want him there and now sees him primarily as an outfielder. (I guess. That’s just my speculation, and it’ll be tested now that Yasiel Puig is back, Scott Van Slyke is a few days away, and Carl Crawford is improving.)

That said, J.P. Hoornstra caught up with Don Mattingly and got him to say “we like the way that’s looking” — regarding Guerrero at third — before the game:

So, who really knows what’s true there. All of which is to say: Man, I miss Juan Uribe.

Stripling had really risen up the prospect rankings after a very good 2013 — I liked him more than Zach Lee, anyway — before blowing out his arm last spring. Too soon to say if there’s any chance of him contributing to the big club later this year, but I wouldn’t hold my breath on that. Still good to see him back, anyway.
