Justin Turner isn’t starting at third today, which normally isn’t news. But in this case, J.P. Hoornstra adds some context there:

Don Mattingly said that Justin Turner is the team's primary third baseman now, moving away from a Turner/Guerrero platoon. Videos to follow.

In one sense, that’s not “news” either, because as we’ve discussed previously, Alex Guerrero hasn’t been seen at third base since May 24. Clearly, the team just doesn’t view him as an option there, and given what we know about his defense skills — or lack thereof — it’s kind of hard to argue. I mean:
Alex Guerrero at DH? Mattingly: "That would be a good position for him." http://t.co/ulIs7KbS9k

On the other hand, Alberto Callaspo hasn’t done much as a Dodger (84 wRC+) and I miss Juan Uribe and at least Hector Olivera is coming soon and this is kind of warmed-over territory so let’s move on.
Hey, Ross Stripling!
Ross Stripling, pitching for Great Lakes in his first start since Aug. 29, 2013, was pretty good: 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K, 4/3 GO/AO.

Hey, Scott Van Slyke!
Van Slyke expected to rejoin Dodgers when they return from Texas. Will play LF today for Rancho, 1B tomorrow.

So, what sort of roster moves are going to be coming to get Van Slyke and Olivera on the active roster? Well, Chris Heisey, pretty obviously. Maybe Enrique Hernandez, Rally Banana aside, since he still has options? I doubt anyone would mind seeing Callaspo go, but you probably need to see at least a little Olivera in the bigs before you’re comfortable doing that.
That’s a problem for next week, though. Today it’s Mike Bolsinger attempting to keep rolling with the hilarious truth that James Shields hasn’t really outpitched him this year. Stay weird, baseball.
