The Dodgers doing their second round of cuts is here, but most importantly, the World Baseball Classic is amazing and I implore you to watch it.
======
The Dodgers have cut nine more players today, optioning C Diego Cartaya, IFs Michael Busch, Eddys Leonard, and Jorbit Vivas, and OFs Andy Pages and Jonny DeLuca. They have also reassigned to minor-league camp RHPs Matt Andriese and Bobby Miller, as well as IF Jahmai Jones.
While none of the names here were expected to make the team, it’s a bit of disappointment that Busch didn’t get closer than he did — though he has come alive recently to post a .261/.393/.435/.828 line — and that Miller didn’t even make an appearance as he ramps up late.
Another who impressed on that list was Leonard, who slashed .409/.435/.591/1.026.
With an off-day tomorrow and minor-league stuff about to start, the timing makes sense.
Anyway, that’s six members of the 40-man roster who were optioned and three NRIs who were reassigned, which leaves 16 NRIs left in big-league camp and a total of 50 players there. Again though, with Gavin Lux and Alex Reyes likely to be moved to the 60-day IL, and now Tony Gonsolin and Daniel Hudson likely to be on the 15-day IL, that makes it effectively 46 left for the 26 spots for Opening Day.

Speaking of cuts, one of the players from the last round, Jordan Yamamoto, has announced his retirement.

Best of luck to a local boy (to Hawaii, of course)!

I’m not saying Gavin Stone is going to make the 26-man roster, but … if he looks like this to begin the year in the minors as well, how much longer can you hold him down his the question.
Speaking of players that want to force the Dodgers hand, James Outman has remained hot.
Another day, another Outman RBI. 👏 pic.twitter.com/Q0SqyZMdPa

He’s impressing not just fans, but also teammates.
Meanwhile, in arguably more important news, Dustin May had his first outing since returning from elbow surgery where he looked like he did in 2021.

Again, I implore you to watch the WBC even if the USA recently embarrassed themselves against Mexico.

This is legitimately amazing shit, come on.
