Looking at the Dodgers’ roster following an active yet unspectacular trade deadline

(Via @Dodgers)

The 2025 trade deadline has come and gone, and yesterday was a wild one. The Dodgers weren’t overly active at the deadline, but they did make four total deals between Wednesday and Thursday.

  1. 3-team deal with CIN/TB
  2. Brock Brock returns
  3. Prototypical 4th OF in Call
  4. Big steal: May for Tibbs

The Dodgers didn’t make a big splash, but they didn’t exactly need to. They have the most talented roster in the game. However, the roster hasn’t performed up to expectations and hasn’t stayed healthy. So, it seems the Dodgers are banking on health and improved performance in the second half. With the amount of talent, it’s hard to argue against that strategy.

Here’s who’s in and who’s out.

Ehrhard, Rortvedt, Serwinoski and Tibbs III will all be in the minors. Gervase has a chance to crack the bullpen at some point, while Call and Stewart are the only surefire additions to the 26-man roster. That may seem like a mistake for a team that has struggled of late, but the Dodgers have a lot of players on the injured list due back at some point over the next few weeks. That and a full 40-man roster limited their options to add. Sure, they could have paid the asking price for guys like Steven Kwan or Luis Robert Jr., but Andrew Friedman and Friends didn’t feel it was the right call.

Let’s look at how the roster shapes up heading into the season’s final two months.

Catcher (2)
Dalton Rushing
Will Smith

Infield (4)
Mookie Betts
Alex Freeland
Freddie Freeman
Miguel Rojas

Outfield (5)
Alex Call
Michael Conforto
Teoscar Hernandez
Andy Pages
Esteury Ruiz

Infield/Outfield (1)
Tommy Edman

GOAT (1)
Shohei Ohtani

Rotation (5)
Tyler Glasnow
Clayton Kershaw
Shohei Ohtani
Emmet Sheehan
Yoshinobu Yamamoto

Bullpen (9)
Anthony Banda
Ben Casparius
Jack Dreyer
Alexis Diaz
Brock Stewart
Blake Treinen
Alex Vesia
Justin Wrobleski
Kirby Yates

That’s 27 guys for 26 spots, or so it would seem. Ohtani gets two spots, but only counts as one, so that’s why no one has to leave … yet.

Injured List
Brusdar Graterol
Enrique Hernandez
Hyeseong Kim
Michael Kopech
Max Muncy
Roki Sasaki
Tanner Scott
Blake Snell

The injured list guys are those who are slated to come back at some point this season. Snell is back this weekend while Muncy just started his rehab assignment. I’m not sure it’d be wise to count on anything from Graterol, Kopech and Sasaki, but they aren’t deemed out for the season (yet). When Snell returns, It’s a safe bet That Casparius, Diaz or Wrobleski goes to Triple-A. When Muncy comes back, it’s all but assured Ruiz will be headed back to OKC.

——

The rest of the roster has a chance to be fluid the rest of the season. Injuries will determine what happens — like they always do — but the Dodgers have no shortage of talent after the trade deadline, and that’s with only adding two new players to the 26-man roster.
