Going for their second consecutive sweep, the Dodgers came out on a blistering hot day and got out to an early lead, helping Blake Snell and three relievers cruise the rest of the way to a shutout victory over the Pirates. The 4-0 win completed a series sweep and made it six wins in a row.

Let’s start with Blake Snell because he quite frankly made things rather easy to recap yet again.
He actually started with some early trouble, hitting the lead-off batter, giving up a two-out steal, and then an infield single to corner things. However, he got out of that jam in the 1st, then worked around a one-out single and two-out passed ball in the 2nd.
Almost amusingly, Snell mostly cruised the rest of the way, but issued a two-out walk in each of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings to prevent a clean frame before finally getting a 1-2-3 inning in the 6th to end his day.
Snell mostly continues to look great: 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 6 K, 94 Pitches.
I enjoy not feeling much tension.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers got a pen game and managed to do enough against it.
The opener was Lake Bachar, who was greeted by an 11-pitch walk from Shohei Ohtani, a steal, and a Freddie Freeman single to corner things with nobody out. However, Mookie Betts grounded into a double play that did at least score a run to make it 1-0 Dodgers.

The Dodgers didn’t move a lead-off walk in the 2nd, and Bachar’s day was done.
Taking over in the 3rd was Carmen Mlodzinski, who got a clean frame to start. However, he hit Tommy Edman with one-out in the 4th and then Kyle Tucker singled to put a pair on. With two down, both Alek Thomas and Hunter Feduccia singled in runs to make it 3-0 Dodgers.

They added another run in the 5th, when Freddie and Mookie started with singles, and Max Muncy barely made contact to get a run home on an out. 4-0 Dodgers.

Khristian Curtis took over in the 6th and started by retiring seven in a row. In the 8th, they broke that up with a one-out walk and two-out wild pitch, but that was it for them on the day.

To finish off the game, the Dodgers pen had to get nine outs. They did just that.
Edgardo Henriquez started in the 7th with a pair of strikeouts in a clean frame, and Brock Stewart barely worked in a six-pitch frame.
That setup Alex Vesia for the shutout in the 9th, which started with a lead-off walk and took 25 pitches, but he eventually did complete the victory.

The Dodgers have a day off tomorrow as they travel to Atlanta for a seeding-relevant three-game series against the Braves that’ll start at 1:15 PM HT/4:15 PM PT/7:15 PM ET on TBS. It’ll be Tyler Glasnow back on the mound against Bryce Elder (I think?).
