A four-game series at Coors Field is just something you’re happy to escape with all your players intact, but the Dodgers ended up taking the series. Things looked promising for the offense early as they jumped ahead, but they stalled out late and the Rockies started to mount a comeback. Thankfully it fell short in a 5-3 victory for the Dodgers.

Old enemy Ty Blach was on the mound for the Rockies, and Shohei Ohtani did me a gigantic favor by ending all shutout worries in the 1st by leading off with his 21st ding dong of the year.

After they frustratingly left the bases loaded in the 2nd, they made things easy in the 3rd by cashing in runs right off the bat, as Teoscar Hernandez shot a single the other way and Andy Pages immediately doubled him in to make it 2-0.
Miguel Vargas followed with a single to right, which drove in Pages and extended the lead to 3-0.

They continued to pile on in the 4th, as Will Smith finally got one of his deep flyballs over the wall for his 11th of the year, then Freddie Freeman immediately followed and made it back-to-back jacks with his 11th to push the lead to 5-0.

The 5th marked the end of Blach’s day, as the Rockies pen entered, and surprisingly that was also it for the Dodgers scoring as they were blanked over the final five frames

Thankfully then, Gavin Stone was money for the most part. Through the first five innings, his only real trouble came in the 5th, when he hit a batter and allowed a bloop single, but he escaped that without damage.
The 6th led to actual issues, however, as a couple of walks and a single loaded the bases and led to Dave Roberts making a move to the pen despite a low pitch count.
So Blake Treinen entered just trying to escape disaster, but he ended up adding to the problems by allowing a two-run single to Jake Cave before being able to get out of it.
Daniel Hudson followed in the 7th and managed a 1-2-3 frame, which led to Alex Vesia in the 8th, who didn’t have things go as smoothly. He gave up a homer to Ryan McMahon to start the frame, cutting the lead to 5-3, though that was thankfully it and no rally followed.
That all set things up for Evan Phillips in the 9th, who cruised through a 1-2-3 inning for the save and series win.

The Dodgers now travel home for an odd two-game Freeway Series against the Angels at 4:10 PM HT/7:10 PM PT/10:10 PM ET. It’ll be Landon Knack for the Dodgers against Patrick Sandoval.
