After a close game yesterday that ended with a Giants walk-off, the Dodgers played another great one with them again today. In the first five frames there were four lead changes and two ties, after which both teams couldn’t take advantage of chances and the game ended upgoing into extra innings. Things also went back-and-forth there initially, but it was the Dodgers who powered ahead in the 11th with a massive seven-spot for a 14-7 victory.
An awful lot of Dodger fans were there to witness the victory.

It’s been rare that Tyler Glasnow just hasn’t had it in a start this year, but today was certainly one of those starts, as he alternated between not being able to throw strikes anywhere near the zone and missing right over the heart of the plate.
Unfortunately that showed in the results from the start, as he allowed a lead-off double in the 1st that was eventually scored on a sacrifice fly. Glasnow then allowed two doubles in the 2nd, but managed to not give up a run due to an ill-advised steal attempt.

He wasn’t able to get as lucky in the 3rd, where he labored through nine batters, three singles, a double, and two walks that accounted for a four-run inning.

Glasnow was removed at that point, which was hard to argue with: 3 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 1 K, 61 Pitches.

On the other end, the Giants were running basically a pen game, which is probably what gave the Dodgers a chance.
They started scoring in the 2nd, as after an Andy Pages double, Miguel Rojas continued to produce with a bloop single.

Then in the 3rd it was — who else? — Shohei Ohtani with a skyscraping homer to center for his 26th of the year.

Fortunately, it was then that the Dodgers responded to the Giants’ four-spot against Glasnow with one of their own in the 4th.
After Teoscar Hernandez flied out, Pages drew a walk and Jason Heyward singled to corner the runners. Back-to-back BABIP-fueled singles from Rojas and Gavin Lux followed, which plated a pair of runs and cut the Giants lead to 5-4. Cavan Biggio then continued his terrible time by trying to safety squeeze but popping out, and Ohtani then drew a walk to load things up.
Will Smith then beat out what seemed like a routine grounder to short for a single and the tying run, and Freddie Freeman drew a walk to force in the go-ahead run. Teoscar then ended the frame by just missing a grand slam and showing his frustration, but it was a 6-5 lead.

In relief of Glasnow was Yohan Ramirez in the 4th, who surrendered just an infield single in that frame. However, after an out to start the 5th, he gave up a single and his day was done. That brought in Alex Vesia, who immediately issued a walk, which proved significant when Brett Wisely blooped a single into center to tie the game at 6-6 (charged to Yohan).

Vesia continued in the 6th, getting an out but then allowing a double and getting yanked himself. Michael Petersen then entered against the heart of the order, and after issuing a walk in a hard-fought at-bat, he then struck out the next two batters to do his job.

Anthony Banda followed up by working around a lead-off walk in the 7th, thanks in part to two strikeouts to close the frame. In the 8th, Blake Treinen was forced to pitch around an Enrique Hernandez throwing error, which he thankfully managed to do.
Meanwhile, the Dodger offense was MIA since the 4th. They did threaten in the 7th with a one-out double, and the 8th after a HBP and single with one out. However, Enrique needed to just not make two outs to get Ohtani up with a runner in scoring position, so of course he grounded into a double play. In the 9th they got an infield single — Matt Chapman got snipered — and a walk, but strikeouts killed that rally off quickly.

Tasked with preventing another walk-off, Evan Phillips entered in the 9th and managed to work around a lead-off walk.
BONUS BASEBALL!
Extras started with Heyward pulling a grounder to advance the Manfred Runner to third, which allowed Rojas to bloop a single over the drawn-in infield for a 7-6 lead.

That left it up to Daniel Hudson in the 10th, who got an out but then gave up a double to David Villar (?) to tie the game at 7-7.

He then found more trouble after he got behind 3-1, issued an intentional walk, and then Heliot Ramos had a ball bounce off his foot for a “single” to load the bases with still just one out.

Fortunately, Hudson buckled down, getting a strikeout and then a foul out to prolong the game.

The Dodgers immediately took advantage in the 11th, as Ohtani was intentionally walked and Smith made them pay immediately with a double to score two runs and make it 9-7.
Freeman followed with a bloop “double” to trade places with Smith, and a Teoscar bloop single cornered the runners. Chris Taylor then grounded a ball the other way for a single to score yet another run, and Heyward followed by ripping a triple down the line in right to score two more. The scoring finally ended with a Rojas sacrifice fly that made it 14-7.

A day after pitching two innings, Ryan Yarbrough‘s rubber arm entered again today and cruised through an easy 11th frame to secure the victory.
