Joe Wieland‘s Dodgers debut got off to a nightmare start.
In the first inning, Wieland surrendered two walks, two homers, two singles, and a stolen base to put the Dodgers in a 5-0 hole right out of the gate. He then settled down a bit and retired 11 of the next 12 before allowing a walk to Adam Lind then being forced to intenationally walk Aramis Ramirez for … whatever reason. Sergio Santos then relieved him and walked two batters before the end of the inning, bumping the amount of runs allowed to six. Any way you look at it, not the best of starts for Wieland, but he did flash some of his potential after the first inning, and he probably deserves a longer leash than the alternative of giving starts to one of the retreads with minimal upside and equal current performance.
The Dodgers offense got on the board in the fourth behind an Andre Ethier infield single and throwing error by Brewers shortstop Jean Segura, scoring Justin Turner. Then in the following frame, Joc Pederson homered…
…then he homered again in his next plate appearance.
Oh yeah, he can play defense as well.

Unfortunately, that was about it for the offense, as Brewers starter Wily Peralta and closer Francisco Rodriguez generally kept everybody else in the lineup quiet.

– Worth noting that despite Santos allowing one inherited runner to score, the bullpen did pitch 3.1 innings without allowing a run of their own. Again.
