Podcast: ‘Dugout Blues’ episode 118 – Joc, Urias, pitching injuries

On this episode of “Dugout Blues,” Jared Massey (Dodgers Nation) and I pick it back up after a week off. I’m so sorry.

We recorded on Saturday, so we didn’t know the Dodgers were actually going to play on Sunday. Thankfully, they’re back on that 108-win pace so folks can stop freaking out about every loss.

Joc Pederson is doing some amazing things, as we’ve chronicled here. The rest of the offense is also doing some amazing thing, which is unusual for the Dodgers.

Julio Urias is mind-blowing. He is a complete pitcher and has improved on his already solid command. He needs to stay in the minors. He needs to stay in the minors. He needs to stay in the minors. He needs to stay in the minors.

Jose De Leon is also great, and is fresh off a California League Pitcher of the Week honor — his second this season.

Since we last recorded, the Dodgers lost Brandon McCarthy for the season and Hyun-Jin Ryu suffered a setback in his rehab. His velocity is only in the 82-83 MPH, which is bad. The Dodgers will make a trade for a starter at some point, but the carousel of fourth/fifth starters have gotten the job done so far.

Finally, we finish with the Q&A session. I was surprised at the number of questions we received since it was a Saturday night (yeah, we have nothing better to do on a Saturday night than record a podcast. You’re welcome.).
