Podcast: ‘Dugout Blues’ episode 125 – Greinke great, Urias, July 2

On this episode of “Dugout Blues,” Jared Massey (Dodgers Nation) and I try to contain our excitement about the Dodgers’ July 2 signings. But before we got to that, we talked about other stuff.

Adrian Gonzalez left Sunday’s game after getting hit by a pitch. He’s probably OK, but it’s never a good thing when one of the team’s best hitters goes down.

Zack Greinke is amazingly awesome. He’s pitching as well as he has since his Cy Young season, and the Dodgers are benefiting greatly from it.

The Dodgers are four games ahead of the Giants in the NL West heading into the last week before the All-Star break. Why the hell is everyone still freaking out?

Julio Urias is back on the mound (at Camelback Ranch) after his cosmetic eye surgery. He should be back on the hill in Tulsa soon. Both of us are concerned about him starting up after stopping, but we also aren’t in the player development department. #notascout

Jharel Cotton is on fire (not literally, thankfully). He’s establishing himself as a Top 7 pitching prospect in the system, as he was for me before the season. We discuss his future as a starter or reliever.

July 2 finally happened! The Dodgers got some of the players for a lot of the money, but missed out on Lucius Fox, Jr., which put a slight damper on the day. Eddy Julio Martinez is still out there and is said to be deciding between the Cubs and Dodgers, with the Giants on the periphery.

To close, we have the Q&A, which was strong as usual. Please keep the questions coming.
