On this episode of “Dugout Blues,” Jared Massey (Dodgers Nation) and I are feeling pretty good about this Dodger team. It’s weird because people claimed this was the worst team in the history of professional sports. Funny how things can turn in two weeks.
The Dodgers are 8 1/2 games ahead in the NL West. The magic number is at 17 with 25 games remaining. The Dodgers’ third consecutive division title is almost locked up. It has never been done in Dodgers’ history.
Corey Seager is up. Despite my position in saying he shouldn’t be recalled, he has been really impressive in his first few games. I’m happy to be wrong on this one.
Jared is obviously Team Mike, as he thinks Zack Greinke will win the Cy Young over Clayton Kershaw. While Greinke has been great, Kershaw has been better. I’d be shocked if Clayton doesn’t win another one.
Mat Latos has been bad and might be out of the rotation soon. He almost certainly won’t be on the postseason roster.
Brett Anderson, Yasmani Grandal and Jimmy Rollins are all dealing with injuries. Anderson and Rollins are day-to-day, but Grandal appears to be hurt more than them. He should just sit for a couple weeks and hope his shoulder gets healthy in time for the postseason.
The minor-league regular season is just about over. Some good performers include Alex Verdugo and Jharel Cotton. While Julio Urias has been really good this season, he has struggled in his two Triple-A starts. I’d be surprised if he were called up.
