Podcast: ‘Dugout Blues’ episode 134 – Clinch, Kershaw, Puig, playoffs

On this episode of “Dugout Blues,” Jared Massey (Dodgers Nation) and I are back after 2-week hiatus that was mostly my fault. But now we’re rested for the postseason push, or something like that.

Since our last show, the Dodgers clinched the NL West and home-field advantage in the NLDS, thanks in large part to Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke.

Speaking of Kershaw, he got to 300 strikeouts for the first time in his career. It’s also the first time since 2002 a pitcher has reached that mark. Funny, because this was supposed to be the beginning of the end for him.

Enrique Hernandez and Yasiel Puig are back. While Hernandez is a lock, Jared and I have a spirited debate about Puig being included. As for the rest of the postseason roster, we’re pretty much in line. I do think Yimi Garica and Carlos Frias have a really good chance at the roster, while Jared is leaning toward Joel Peralta.

Awards season is almost here. The biggest difference in our selections are for AL MVP. I went with Josh Donaldson and Jared went with Mike Trout. There are a couple other categories on which we disagree, too.

Eddy Julio Martinez, once a favorite to sign with the Dodgers, signed with the Giants for $2.5 million. We talk about the implications, and I touched on it in yesterday’s game thread.

The Quakes won the California League championship and Cody Bellinger won the series MVP. He good.

Finally, we end with a good Q&A. Please keep the questions coming. Also, there’s a mini NLDS preview at the end.
