On this episode of “Dugout Blues,” Jared Massey (Dodgers Nation) and I close out the Dodgers’ 2015 season by recapping the National League Division Series loss to the eventual World Series Champion New York Mets.
Game 3 was an utter disaster, and that’s after the Dodgers jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Brett Anderson and Alex Wood didn’t fare well against the Mets’ lineup. Some shoddy defense also played into the loss.
Game 4 was Clayton Kershaw‘s game. He threw seven innings of 1-run ball in an attempt to shake the “postseason choker” label. There were some tense moments, but after the first inning, Kershaw was pretty much in control of the game. The bullpen closed it out for him to send the series back to LA.
Zack Greinke got the call in Game 5 and was good-not-great (by his standards). The Dodgers were hitting Jacob deGrom early and could only cash in two runs. That was the reason they lost, not because of Matt Carpenter cosplaying as Daniel Murphy (credit to a listener who made this joke) or because Andre Ethier caught what ended up being a foul ball for a sacrifice fly. It was about the most frustrating way to lose the game.
The Dodgers turn to the offseason. There is a lot to be done. This offseason will be more active than the last. They’ve already claimed Brooks Brown from the Rockies and designated Jim Johnson for assignment. Hooray!
Jacob Scavuzzo won some hitting challenge thing in the Arizona Fall League, so that’s fun, I think.
Stan Conte resigned. It has been a long time coming. Ever since approving Jason Schmidt‘s shoulder, Conte hasn’t been great at his job with the Dodgers. Hopefully the new head trainer can actually rid the Dodgers of most of the hamstring injuries.
