Jake Arrieta bests Zack Greinke in Cy Young vote

Some would say there was no wrong choice for NL Cy Young. I don’t agree, but the winner was definitely deserving.

Cubs’ ace Jake Arrieta, on the strength of an historic second half, won his first Cy Young award. He got 17 first-place votes and 169 points. Zack Greinke finished second with 10 first-place votes and 147 points. Clayton Kershaw finished third with a laughable three first-place votes and 101 points. Kudos to Nick Groke of the Denver Post, Ryan Lawrence of the Philadelphia Daily News and Andrew Baggarly (!?!) of the San Jose Mercury News for voting correctly.

Kershaw was easily my choice for the award, but this wasn’t a Bartolo Colon 2005 situation. Arrieta and Greinke deserved the ward, but there can only be one winner.

Twitter had fun with Kershaw’s Bro Squad returning for another year. At least they dressed up this time. That was fun.

Oh well. Now, focus shifts to the managerial search and retaining Greinke.
