On this episode of “Dugout Blues,” Jared Massey (Dodger Blue) and I record on a Saturday for possibly the first time in the podcast’s history. He is now at spring training, while I’m at work. Sigh.
Injuries have been a big story this spring. Yasmani Grandal, Howie Kendrick, Corey Seager, Justin Turner, Alex Wood — all have experienced some kind of injury this spring. You can add Mike Bolsinger to that list, but that happened the day after we recorded.
Julio Urias and Jose De Leon had some early success in spring training, but both ended up struggling and were reasisgned to minor-league camp. Neither had much of a chance of cracking the opening day roster anyway.
Yaisel Sierra is progressing, but he was also among the most recent cuts.
Kenta Maeda and Austin Barnes are having excellent springs so far. Bodes well for the future.
Yusniel Diaz and Yadier Alvarez are in camp and making a little noise. Good to see from the combined $63 million investment.
