Podcast: ‘Dugout Blues’ episode 160 – Offensive struggles, Urias, draft recap

On this episode of “Dugout Blues,” Jared Massey (Dodger Blue) and I are back to talk about the Dodgers because we like self-inflicted pain.

Justin Turner and Adrian Gonzalez have struggled this season in their own separate ways. They showed some signs of breaking out against the Giants this weekend, but it’s far from time to get excited.

Someone we should be excited about is Trayce Thompson, who has been excellent this season and much better than anyone could have hoped/expected.

Kenley Jansen‘s cutter isn’t cutting. It’s probably a mechanical thing. And while we didn’t talk about the following point on the podcast, his struggles are certainly not because of this:

What a joke.

Anyhoo, Julio Urias had a strong start against the Rockies. We recorded before the Sunday night game, but the game against ‘Frisco was easily the best of his four, even though he took the loss.

Hyun-Jin Ryu restarted his rehab stint and Brandon McCarthy started his rehab stint — both in Rancho Cucamonga. Please just stay healthy and come back to contribute.

On the minor-league side, Willie Calhoun and Trevor Oaks had themselves a week. It was so good both were named Texas League Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. Jose De Leon is back after being down a month with a shoulder injury. Josh Sborz and Yaisel Sierra are pitching well with Rancho of late, while Frankie Montas is being groomed to start, hence the reason he’s still in the minors. Brock Stewart was promoted for the second time this season. He’s now with Triple-A Oklahoma City.

We wrap up with a Q&A session. Good ones this week. Please keep them coming.
