On this episode of “Dugout Blues,” Jared Massey (Dodger Blue) and I weren’t satisfied with the first recording, so we re-recorded the episode. That or the first recording didn’t properly save … one of those things.
Rich Hill was pulled after seven perfect innings Saturday night. You know you can come to this podcast for the hot takes, so here it goes: It was the right move.
Clayton Kershaw made his somewhat-but-not-really triumphant return to the rotation. He was understandably rusty, but said he felt good. Hopefully a few starts down the stretch gets him ready for the postseason.
Scott Kazmir is hurt. He has been hurt for most of the season, and it shows in the results. When he has been healthy, his numbers are good. When he hasn’t been, they’ve been bad. Here’s hoping 2017 is a healthier year for Kazmir.
Speaking of health, Brett Anderson and Brandon McCarthy both had disastrous rehab outings. They both gave up a lot of runs and Anderson developed a blister. He may have thrown his last pitch as a Dodger. McCarthy’s hip still isn’t healed, so I’m not sure how much he’s going to be able to contribute for the rest of this season.
In the minors, four teams made the playoffs — OKC, Rancho Cucamonga, Great Lakes, Ogden. Only two of them are still standing: OKC and Great Lakes. The Quakes were handled despite a dramatic first game, and the Raptors lost in heartbreaking fashion. Cody Bellinger and Brock Stewart were my Dodger minor-league players of the year. No real surprise with Stewart, but I went against the grain a bit with Bellinger.
We close with a Q&A session that was, truthfully, lacking. We’ll attribute it to a late-season slump and handegg season starting up.
