Podcast: ‘Dugout Blues’ episode 184 – Dozier, backup plan, JT re-signs

On this episode of “Dugout Blues,” Jared Massey (Dodger Blue) and I ring in the new year with a fresh episode of the podcast.

We claimed to have nothing to talk about, but we still made it through an hour-plus. You’re welcome/I’m sorry.

The only thing that has officially happened is Justin Turner officially re-signed with the Dodgers. We talked about it at length in previous episodes.

The biggest topic of discussion is still about Brian Dozier. The Twins’ second baseman has been rumored to not only be a target of the Dodgers, but that both teams have worked for a long time to try to come to an agreement. We’re approaching the 1-month mark of the original rumor, which would be worrisome if there weren’t two major holidays in the last week. If something doesn’t get done in the next week or so, I’d be surprised. The two teams match up well on a deal, and now, one side is doing more posturing than the other. I’m betting it gets done soon.

We also discussed backup plans if the Dozier deal falls through. Ian Kinsler or Logan Forsythe make sense, but Kinsler has a no-trade clause (and wants an extension) and the Rays don’t seem to be shopping Forsythe. That means a realistic backup plan could be Chase Utley or a full-on internal filling of the spot (Enrique Hernandez, Micah Johnson, Chris Taylor).

Kenley Jansen isn’t yet officially back, as the lack of a 40-man roster spot is holding things up. A Dozier trade could be the reason Jansen hasn’t been made official, but Kenley isn’t in any danger of not returning.

To close, a Q&A from the listeners. Please keep the questions coming.
