On this episode of “Dugout Blues,” Jared Massey (Dodger Blue) and I are eagerly awaiting the start of the 2017 season. It’s one week away.
Scott Kazmir is hurt. He pitched on Sunday and was bad — mostly because he was hurt. He’ll begin the season on the disabled list. Luckily, the Dodgers can cover the loss.
Rich Hill hasn’t been great this spring. But, he was awful last spring with Oakland before having a career-year in 2016, so I wouldn’t fret about his rough spring.
Guys who are still hurt are Pedro Baez and Andre Ethier. Like Kazmir, both of them will start the season on the DL. And also like with Kazmir, the Dodgers can cover it.
Andrew Toles is hitting well this spring and could be the beneficiary of Ethier’s injury, while a guy like Adam Liberatore could be in the opening day bullpen with Baez out.
And from the “I can’t believe this might actually happen” department, Hyun-Jin Ryu might be in the OD rotation. I’m shocked and pleasantly surprised. Please be OK.
We had a light Q&A session. Here’s hoping it improves now that spring training is almost over.
