Podcast: ‘Dugout Blues’ episode 200 – Kershaw, good offense, MLB Draft

On this episode of Dugout Blues, Jared and I turn 200. Yes, it’s the 200th episode of this dumb little podcast. We would have published this last week, but Jared screwed up the recording. So, here’s episode 200. Thank you so much for listening. Also, I’m sorry.

Clayton Kershaw struck out his 2,000th batter and, turns out, is still the best pitcher on the planet. Ho-hum.

The Dodgers split with the Cardinals and took 2-of-3 from the Brewers two weeks ago. They dropped 2-of-3 to the Nationals and swept the Reds, thanks to a great comeback capped by a Corey Seager grand slam.

The offense has picked it up of late after scuffling a bit to start the month. Cody Bellinger is still doing ROY things, while Chris Taylor is still doing MVP things. Justin Turner is back and Joc Pederson is close to returning. This is all despite Logan Forsythe and Yasmani Grandal struggling and Adrian Gonzalez (possibly) heading back to the disabled list.

On the farm, Edwin Rios and Alex Verdugo are still hitting well. Rios is starting to walk while Verdugo is finding a little bit of his lost power. On the pitching side, Mitchell White has a broken toe and is out 4-6 weeks while Walker Buehler went on the 7-day disabled list. That one is a paper move to conserve his innings, most likely.

We also touch on today’s draft and talk about some of the prospects we like best. I’m a Heliot Ramos guy, while Jared is a Keston Hiura fella. I wrote profiles on both of them (click their names to view).

To close, we have a lot of questions that have piled up over the last week plus. Please keep them coming.
