The Dodgers have a shot at a series victory tonight. They’ll need to get through rookie Tyler Pill (3.75 ERA, 3.29 FIP, 6.59 DRA) to do it, and they’ll also need Rich Hill (5.14 ERA, 5.29 FIP, 7.25 DRA) to be a lot better than he has been.

Pill is a 27-year-old right-hander selected by the Mets in the fourth round of the 2011 draft. Pill made his major-league debut in May of this year. He has made two starts and two relief appearances at the major league level, and has allowed seven runs (five earned) in 12 IP, with eight strikeouts versus four walks. In 63.1 IP in Triple-A this year, Hill has a 1.71 ERA. Pill is not a power pitcher by any means, with a fastball that averages around 90 miles per hour. He’s never been a high-strikeout guy, either, with a career K rate across all levels of 14.3%.
This is a sort of homecoming for Pill, who was born in San Dimas, graduated from Covina High School, and attended Cal State Fullerton for three years. His brother, Brett Pill, played parts of three seasons for the Giants.
Hill, making his ninth start of 2017, has, frankly, not been good this year. He has yet to pitch beyond the fifth inning of any game he’s started. His most recent start, in which he allowed seven runs in four innings pitched, was his worst of the season thus far. If he doesn’t rebound soon, the Dodgers have enough starting pitching depth that his rotation spot could very well be in jeopardy.
Justin Turner, who exited last night’s blowout early, isn’t in the starting lineup, but it’s just a scheduled day off.

Brandon Morrow is back from Oklahoma City, and Brock Stewart will be heading there to take his place.
Brock Stewart will be optioned to make room for Brandon Morrow.

Morrow has made five appearances for the Dodgers this year, and has yet to allow an earned run in six innings pitched. He’s struck out seven batters and walked just one. Stewart pitched three scoreless innings in last night’s victory.
Julio Urías has been shut down indefinitely.
"We're continuing to gather more information," Dave Roberts said of Julio Urias, who isn't throwing. Second opinion/more tests on shoulder.

Finally, on Andre Ethier bobblehead night, a less-than-optimistic prediction about his return.
Dave Roberts set a new arrival date for Andre Ethier: Sept. 1.
— Andy McCullough (@ByMcCullough) June 21, 2017
Or maybe it’s actually too optimistic, since at this rate it seems like it’d be a miracle if Andre Ethier ever played again.
