After 48 submissions, we at Dodgers Digest have finally selected our two newest members. Please help us welcome Alex Campos and Allan Yamashige to the family.
We went through all the submissions and sent a questionnaire to the final six, and Alex and Allan were the two we liked the best. With so many great submissions, the selection process wasn’t easy, but we’re all thrilled to have these two talented writers in the fold.
I’ll let them give an introduction in their own words.
Alex Campos
I’m Alex Campos, a 27-year-old life-long Angeleno born and raised 20 minutes from Dodger Stadium. Sports has always been my passion, but I knew being an athlete wasn’t going to work out when I became 5’4 and then stopped growing.
I picked up a passion for telling stories at community college, which turned into writing about games and athletes. When I transferred to CSU Long Beach, being part of the newspaper staff and sitting in the newsroom became my college experience. I covered the Dirtbags through the 2014 season and watched them get swept by the Dansby Swanson-led Vanderbilt Commodores to kick off the season. They turned it around to make the postseason for the first time in six years, but for some reason our student-run newspaper wouldn’t fly me to Florida to cover the regional.
Since graduation, I’ve been writing as much as I can. I wrote at iSportsweb, Lasorda’s Lair/Dodgers Way and most recently at Chavez Ravine Fiends about the Dodgers. I had stops along the way writing about the Los Angeles Lakers and Baltimore Ravens for other websites, but nothing quite kept my attention like my Dodger writing.
I still only wear Matt Kemp shirtseys to games. A drunk Reds fan once told me that I looked like “mini Matt Kemp”, so I’ll probably never wear a different shirtsey.
I’m so excited to join the one Dodger website I’ve read throughout all of this (back to its Mike Scioscia’s Tragic Illness days). Getting to write with the writers that have inspired my heavily-sarcastic, sometimes-profane writing style is a dream come true.
Allan Yamashige
Hey guys, I’m excited to announce that I’ll be joining the Dodgers Digest team! I’ll be doing the standard features, recaps and game day threads! I feel very fortunate to be a part of such an amazing team, and I’m looking forward to interacting with all of you. Here’s to a great 2018 season!
