Dodgers @ Brewers April 18, 2019: Urías vs. Davies

We’ve heard it before.

This time it might actually be true, though. This is something like Julio Urias third start in a row of being his last start before moving to the bullpen. However, Clayton Kershaw is back. Hyun-Jin Ryu returns on Saturday. Rich Hill struck out eight batters in a four inning rehab start yesterday (though will need one more start before returning). Moving Urías to the bullpen seems like a more real possibility than it has thus far.

The uncertainty probably isn’t an easy thing to deal with, and it might partially explain why Urías is in a mini-slump, having allowed eight earned runs across his last two starts. The major issue has been control, as Urías has issued five walks in that span. Perhaps a reset in the bullpen wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, though if he pitches there like he did in his first start of the season, he’ll be breaking down the door to the rotation again before too long.

Today marks the first game of a four-game series against the Brewers in Milwaukee and the start of a seven game road trip. The Dodgers will kick things off against Zach Davies, who completely shut them down in Los Angeles last week. Davies tops out around 90, but survives with an exceptional changeup and immaculate control. If the Dodgers want to keep their four game winning streak alive, they’ll need to string together hits, which they failed to do against Davies last week.

In positive news, Justin Turner is back in the Dodgers lineup today after missing two games with a sore ankle and bad hamstring. Cody Bellinger is in the lineup too, indicating that the Dodgers’ two injury scares against the Reds were not serious. The rest of the Dodgers’ lineup is their standard one against right-handed pitchers, with Alex Verdugo starting the game on the bench as the rest of the team gets healthy.
