Coming off a thrilling comeback victory last night that involved six unanswered runs in the final three innings, anything less than a series win for the Dodgers over the Mets would’ve felt supremely disappointing.
Well in a rarity this year, the offense laid an egg against a mediocre starter, but Hyun-Jin Ryu hard-carried them to a 2-0 victory in the game and a 3-1 victory in the series.

The Dodgers didn’t take long to pick-up where they left off. Against Jason Vargas in the 1st, Chris Taylor led-off with a triple after his sinking liner was misplayed in left and Max Muncy immediately made the Mets pay with a double to right-center that put The Blue Crew up 1-0.
Despite that quick start, amazingly the offense didn’t do much after that, though Joe Davis did give us this gem.
That put the burden on the shoulders of Ryu, and like he has in basically every start this season, Ryu was up to the task. He surrendered just four hits (one double) and a walk (yes, he issued a walk) while striking out seven, and also served as his own bridge to Kenley Jansen by throwing 106 pitches and going 7.2 innings of shutout ball.
I expect it at this point, honestly.
Speaking of Jansen, he entered with a man on first and two outs in the 8th, immediately shutting down any potential opportunity with a strikeout.
The offense of the Dodgers briefly came alive in the 8th to net some insurance, as David Freese doubled to right and was plated by an Enrique Hernandez single that was also to right, making it 2-0 and giving Jansen some breathing room.
Kenley didn’t seem to need it, as he got a ground out to start the 9th and then kinda got screwed on a questionable hit-by-pitch call that they didn’t overturn on review.
He bounced back by notching a strikeout and then inducing a fly out to end it. Plus, he managed to avoid getting killed.

The Dodgers now have double the amount of wins as they do losses at 38-19, which is a 108-win pace, and that includes a comical 22-7 record at Dodger Stadium that would put them on a 123-win pace. They also now lead the Padres in the NL West by 8.5 games and are tied with the Twins on games for the best record in baseball.
Tomorrow they’ll welcome the Phillies for a standard three-game series starting at 4:10 PM HST/7:10 PM PST/10:10 PM EST, with Kenta Maeda (RHP/3.67 ERA/4.09 FIP/3.70 DRA) facing Jake Arrieta (RHP/3.60 ERA/4.40 FIP/4.18 DRA).
