Dodgers @ Giants June 9, 2019: Buehler vs. Bumgarner for the series win

It’s such a nice day.

After last night’s 7-2 win, the Dodgers are going for a series win over the rival Giants’ behind Walker Buehler. He’ll be opposed by Madison Bumgarner. As such, Enrique Hernandez is hitting leadoff, as he has great career numbers against the surly left-hander.

Corey Seager and Justin Turner led the way on offense last night. Over his last 28 games (27 starts), Seager is hitting .324/.395/.610 — more what we’ve been used to so far in his young career. Over that same time (25 games, 22 starts), Turner is hitting .345/.410/.586 — more what we’ve been used to so far in his Dodger career.

But Turner’s hamstring issue is apparent. It showed itself yesterday when he hit what looked like a triple, yet was only a double. Then, he didn’t score on Seager’s single, which ultimately cost the Dodgers a run. They’re trying to manage his playing time so that they don’t lose his bat to the injured list, but at some point, he’s going to need extended rest to get the hamstring well.

As mentioned already, Hernandez is hitting leadoff today. Chris Taylor is in for Alex Verdugo and Kyle Garlick (!), fresh off his first MLB hit, is starting in left field.

Here’s a little news.

Joc Pederson is improved after feeling back stiffness Saturday night. Dave Roberts said Pederson is available for whatever is needed.

Joc Pederson, who’s having an All-Star season, left Saturday’s game early with back stiffness. He wasn’t going to start today anyway, but it’s nice to see he could be available for pinch-hitting duties later.
