Baseball at Coors Field in conditions like these is just an absolute fucking mess. I have no better way to describe it.
Tonight was no exception, as the Dodgers and Rockies engaged in another slugfest but also decided to add sloppy fielding to the fun for maximum eyesore. In the end, the Rockies ended their 12-game losing streak against the Dodgers in a wild 13-9 game.

The Dodgers got the scoring started in the 1st against Antonio Senzatela, using three singles (Alex Verdugo, Justin Turner, Chris Taylor) and two Daniel Murphy errors to plate three runs, the only RBI coming from CT3’s single.
The Rockies came right back in their half of the 1st against Hyun-Jin Ryu, using a two-run no-doubt dinger from Nolan Arenado to cut the Dodgers lead to 3-2.
After taking what has to be considered a shocking break from scoring, the Dodgers extended their lead in the 4th behind a double from Joc Pederson and a homer from Verdugo, his ninth of the year, to make it 5-2.
Meanwhile, Ryu was cruising along until the 5th, which may have been one of the worst half-innings ever played. Feast your eyes on the play-by-play.
Here’s the thing, watching the actual inning was worse. It says two errors, but it easily could’ve been five and they all basically came in a row.
The first out? It was recorded on this play, which about sums it up.
Ryu ended up surrendering seven earned runs in four-plus innings of work. He struck out three, but gave up nine hits and a walk. While the conditions played a significant role in that, as far as what was actually happening on the field, he was lucky to only have it that bad as the defense behind him when he was pitching stepped up.
It was a mess.
By the end of the inning, Joe Kelly had also given up three runs (one earned) on five hits, getting saddled with a ton of bad luck and quite frankly making some of his own.
Of course, that eight-run disaster didn’t kill of the game, as the Dodgers came back in the 6th. Walks from Verdugo and Turner started things, Cody Bellinger hit a mile-high shot to the warning track, and then Max Muncy absolutely demolished a three-run dong, his 20th homer, to cut things to 10-8.
Shockingly, Zac Rosscup and Dylan Floro notched scoreless 6th and 7th innings, respectively. Rosscup allowed an infield single but struck out two, while Floro got a 1-2-3 frame with a strikeout.
In the 8th, the Dodgers got within one after JT doubled, advanced to third on another fly ball to the track by Cody, and then scored on Muncy chopping a ball down the line and Murphy making an absolute mess out of it to trim the deficit to 10-9.
Unfortunately, Floro continued in the 9th, and he allowed a walk and two singles to load the bases. That brought on JT Chargois, who started with a big strikeout, and then got a sacrifice fly that made it 11-9. However, he surrendered a double after that to plate two more and make it 13-9 before getting out of it with a line out to third.
That was it for the game, as while I prayed for some kind of comical four-run rally to extend this misery, the Dodgers couldn’t rally one last time.

The defeat drops the Dodgers to 56-28 on the year. They are now 12 games ahead of the Rockies in the NL West.
The two teams will do it again tomorrow night at 2:15 PM HST/5:15 PM PST/8:15 PM EST. Clayton Kershaw will be taking on Jon Gray, and I would give you their statistics on the year, but let’s be honest it doesn’t matter in these conditions.
