Dodgers have impressive company after reaching 60 wins before 30 losses … just like the 2017 team

After the Dodgers got to 60-29 last night, Seth on Twitter had his first ever good idea and said it would be neat to look at how teams who got to 60 wins before 30 losses fared in the end.

The Dodgers are now tied for the second-most wins in baseball history through July 4th with 60, which is kinda amazing in itself.

But back to the question, since the inception of the World Series in 1903, there have been 52 teams to get to 60 wins before 30 losses. Of those 52, 29 went on to win the World Series and only seven failed to even make the World Series, with three of those cases being because there were only two playoff spots back then. In the Wild Card era, there have been only two teams to fail to win their league’s pennant, the 2001 Mariners and the 1998 Braves.

Cool, right? A track record of 56% to win the World Series and 87% in reaching the World Series? Gotta take those odds in the randomness of baseball any day.

Of course, one of the teams that failed to win the World Series despite reaching 60 wins before 30 losses was … the 2017 Los Angeles Dodgers.
