Dodgers 9, Padres 0: Buehler goes 6 scoreless, bats breakout with 14 hits, Martin closes the shutout

The Dodgers offense has been scuffling for about a week now, there’s no getting around that, and today against the Padres they faced arguably the best starter they have in this stretch of slump.

So of course it makes all the sense in the world that the bats came alive to light him up in a 9-0 win.

It was the Dodgers that got the scoring started in the 3rd, with Joc Pederson‘s 27th dong of the year (career high!) providing a 1-0 lead.

They immediately tacked on in the 4th behind a Cody Bellinger double, Matt Beaty single to score a run (who then stole second), and Enrique Hernandez single to plate another and make it 3-0.

But the 5th is when the Dodgers really blew the game open with a crooked number. With one down, Max Muncy walked, then A.J. Pollock singled, and then Bellinger walked to load the bases. That brought up Corey Seager, who went oppo for a single to score two and make it 5-0.

Beaty followed by singling to load the bases again, knocking Cal Quantrill out of the game, but not before all his inherited runners scored on a Will Smith single and Enrique double getting things to 8-0.

The only reason things weren’t 10-0 in the 6th was Manuel Margot robbed Cody of a two-run homer.

On the other side of things, Walker Buehler was outstanding again. His only real blip came in the 2nd when he hit Margot right in the helmet with a fastball.

Terrifying. Glad it seemed to get him lower than it appeared since it seemed like he was having trouble with his jaw instead of near the temple area.

Buehler ended up going six shutout frames, striking out 11 and surrendering just four hits and two walks.

Casey Sadler took over in the 7th, getting a 1-2-3 frame that included a strikeout. Caleb Ferguson got a perfect 8th as well, which continues his promising run.

Pollock then homered off position player Ty France in the 9th to make me change my recap a bit, his 11th of the year being a solo shot to make it 9-0.

The Dodgers then answered with a position player of their own in Russell Martin in the 9th. While he allowed a double, he preserved his perfect ERA.

The Dodgers improve to 87-47 on the year with the victory.

The two teams will complete the series tomorrow with a rubber match at 3:10 PM HST/6:10 PM PST/9:10 PM EST. Kenta Maeda will face … well, I have no idea.
