The Dodgers clinched the NL West title for the seventh year in a row with today’s 7-3 victory over the Orioles. Fans definitely aren’t going to be in the mood to go nuts celebrating an NL West title at this point, and that’s understandable, but it also understandably means something to the players.
The victory was easy primarily because Walker Buehler threw seven shutout innings. It was the Orioles, but also he allowed just four hits, all singles, and struck out 11 batters in a masterful outing.
That was more than enough time for the offense to tee off against the Orioles pitching. In fact, they started in the 1st with one out, as David Freese singled, Chris Taylor walked, and Cody Bellinger singled in a run. Later with two outs, Corey Seager parked his 15th dong of the year, a three-run shot to make it 4-0 early.
Seager wasn’t done. In the 3rd, following an Enrique Hernandez single, Corey parked another dong (16) to make it 6-0.
In the 5th, Gavin Lux added to the lead with his first career homer, a no-doubt solo shot to right-center field that extended things to 7-0. Something something he continued to dominate AAA pitching something something.
He is … inevitable.
Casey Sadler, apparently trying to create a save chance, gave up three runs (two earned) in his 8th inning on three hits and a walk. But Caleb Ferguson continued to look sharp with a scoreless 9th to secure the division title.
Not much of a celebration, which will surely please at least some the fans.
