My word does 106 wins feel like eons ago or what? A Dodgers team that only got better on paper in 2020 continues to be anything but, falling to below .500 against the hated Giants as “BEAT L-A” chants echoed throughout Oracle Park in their home opener.
Starter Johnny Cueto pitched a strong game against the Dodgers, leading the Giants to victory, 5-3. Cueto went eight innings to notch the win, scattering four hits, walking three, and striking out six. His record improves to 2-0. The Giants, now 5-2, have hit the ground running this season. This is Hell.
The Dodgers actually jumped out to the early lead, with Mookie Betts continuing his red-hot start in Blue, mashing a three-run tater in the 1st. However, the Giants answered right back.
Evan Longoria delivered a big hit for the Giants. The veteran third baseman belted a 3-run home run in the bottom of the 1st off Clayton Kershaw, which only tied the game, but seemingly provided the spark the Giants needed.
“That’s a solid team effort right there,” said Longoria. “Everyone’s feeling positive after that win.“
Dynamite drop-in, Evan.
Justin Turner contributed two hits and is within striking distance of The Mendoza Line now, but as a team they were limited to just five hits as everybody except Mookie continue to come in below expectations.
Meanwhile, Corey Seager continues to struggle with the bat and also chipped in two errors that led to three unearned runs and an uglier line than Clayton Kershaw deserved.
Time to yell “Fire Dave Roberts!” over and over again or something.
What the hell, guys?
The Dodgers will try to even the series against the Giants tomorrow with David Price on the hill against Jeff Samardzija, whose name I definitely don’t have to Google and then copy/paste into articles.
