It was too good to be true. The Los Angeles Dodgers failed in their attempt to sweep the Rockies in Colorado, falling 8-6 on Thursday. Yonathan Daza — a real-life hooman — led the way, going 3-for-4 for Colorado.
With one out in the bottom of the eighth, Ryan McMahon barreled up a fastball from Zach McAllister, who is, for some reason, getting into the game in high-leverage situations. The result was a 2-run home run, putting the Rockies in front, 7-6.
“We’ll savor this win,” Daza told the Colorado Denver News Post. “Then get ready for the next game.“
Ross Stripling got the start, and it didn’t go well. He gave up five runs in four innings of work. His season ERA — sub-1 before this outing — skyrocketed to 2.28. Aside from McAllister (2/3 IP, 3 R), the rest of the bullpen went unscathed.
At the plate, Mookie Betts (10) and Max Muncy (9) both homered for the Dodgers. Corey Seager had two hits and Joc Pederson reverted to his 2015 form, drawing three walks in the contest.
The Dodgers travel to New York to take on the surprising Metropolitans. Walker Buehler, a future Cy Young Award winner, takes on Rick Porcello, a (somehow) former Cy Young Award winner, at Citi Field.
