OOTP 21: June 3, 2020 – Dodgers 6, Braves 1 – Walker Buehler, the stopper

Los Angeles Dodgers starter Walker Buehler hurled his team past the Atlanta Braves, 6-1. Buehler wasn’t his best, but he was damn good: 7 2/3 IP, 4 H, 1 R/ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 111 pitches, 73 strikes. It was a much-needed victory after a couple disappointing losses.

The Dodgers picked up the win with a combination of good hitting and good pitching, which is — I’m told — a good way to win baseball gams.

Walker was pounding the zone,” said Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts.

There’s an inappropriate joke in there somewhere.

The game was pretty much in hand after the fourth inning. On offense, Gavin Lux and Justin Turner both clubbed their 11th homers of the season. Lux went 2-for-3 as he continues his march toward the NL Rookie of the Year award. Half of the Dodgers’ hits went for extra bases. Corey Seager went 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs, while Mookie Betts was 2-for-3.

On the hill, newly acquired Rich Rodriguez followed Buehler by recording a strikeout. Pedro Baez then finished the game off with a perfect ninth inning.

The Dodgers improve to 34-27 with the victory. They welcome in the Colorado Rockies on Thursday for a 4-game weekend set. Julio Urias gets the ball against Jeff Hoffman.
