The Colorado Rockies (28-35) ABSORBED (the sim’s word choice) a 10-5 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers (36-27) Friday night, even as Clayton Kershaw struggled a bit again.
Allowing four runs and 11 hits, Kershaw worked through six innings while striking out six. The first of the runs came off the bat of Nolan Arenado, whose solo shot was the first of four homers in Friday’s game. Arenado finished the game 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs, but again his team’s pitching was just a complete disaster.
Burning my stupid headline on yesterday’s game, the Rockies inched closer to 5,000 walks in a game with 13 free passes on Friday. Of the 13, the Dodgers’ 3-4-5-6 accounted for 11 of them. Code Bellinger, Matrix Muncy and Joc Pederson each drew three, while Corey Seager added two.
Pederson also came away with one of the Dodgers’ three home runs, a three-run shot off Antonio Senzatela in the third. Los Angeles rolled up six of its 10 runs in the opening three innings as Senzatela lasted just 2 2/3 IP and allowed five runs on four hits and three walks.
“Feels good to get the job done,” said Pederson, who is up to 16 home runs while A.J. Pollock continues to rarely ever play in this simulation.
The first three out of the bullpen added to the Rockies’ struggles, with Bryan Shaw, Jake McGee and Ben Bowden seeing the final five runs cross in the next four innings. McGee allowed three runs without giving up a hit by walking three, while Shaw’s three walks turned into just one run for the Dodgers.
Pitching for the third straight day since the Dodgers traded for him, Richard Rodriguez allowed one run in his lone inning of work. Adam Kolarek and Pedro Baez closed out the game with the Rockies unable to mount any sort of late rally.
With those new bullpen arms apparently satisfying Andrew Friedman and Dave Robots, Edubray Ramos was designated for assignment and placed on waivers.
Alex Wood’s weird season continues on Saturday as he faces German Marquez as the Dodgers look to extend their winning streak to four games.
