The Arizona Diamondbacks picked up a win at Dodger Stadium, taking down the Los Angeles Dodgers, 6-0.
Starting pitcher Mike Leake was a big reason why. He shut down one of the league’s best offenses to the tune of: 8 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K, 109 pitches, 76 strikes. The last-place Diamondbacks now have a win-loss record of 31-41.
It could have been a different outcome for Arizona had it not been for 31-year-old third baseman Eduardo Escobar. Escobar contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning off Julio Urias to put Arizona up 2-0. Ketel Marte went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored.
Escobar called the win the result of “everyone being in sync.“
Justin Timberlake he is not, but he hits the ball better than JT, noted Dodger fan.
On offense, Mookie Betts and Joc Pederson each collected two hits, with both of Joc’s being doubles. But, the Dodgers managed just five hits and were pretty hapless doing it, I’ll bet.
Urias was decidedly mediocre on the day: 5 IP, 6 H, 4/3 R/ER, 0 BB, 6 K, 74 pitches 52 strikes. Adam Kolarek, not a 2-inning pitcher, threw two innings and gave up a run. Recent acquisition Brandon Kintzler also gave up a run, while mop-up specialist, apparently, Kenley Jansen pitched a scoreless ninth.
The Dodgers are 42-31 after the loss. Clayton Kershaw toes the rubber Tuesday against old foe Madison Bumgarner.
