The Dodgers opened up their final series before the All-Star break with a 4-2 win in Anaheim.
Mookie Betts got the Dodgers off to a hot start in the first inning with a two-run homer off Jacob Barnes. Corey Seager added a dong of his own in the third inning off Dylan Bundy, who gave the Angels 6 2/3 innings of two-run ball in relief of Barnes. Seager drove in the Dodgers’ fourth run of the day as well, scoring Betts with a fifth inning double.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers much-maligned bullpen provided quality backup today, as Alex Wood and Dustin May combined to record two outs in the first inning. Kenley Jansen was called upon to put out a fire in the first, and was able to hold the Angels to one run and keep the Dodgers in front.
Then Richard Rodriguez, Joe Kelly and Pedro Baez held the Angels off the board until the ninth inning. Baez allowed a run in the final frame and was relieved by Blake Treinen, who recorded his second save in three opportunities.
Betts called the win the result of “everyone working in tandem.“
The win puts the Dodgers at 56-39 on the season and two up on the second-place Padres in the NL West. The Dodgers wrap up their pre-All-Star break schedule with the finale in Anaheim, as Walker Buehler squares off against old friend Andrew Heaney.
