Dodgers 15, Rockies 6: Bullpen wins again as Coors remains the same

Apparently a bullpen game for the Dodgers helps ignite the offense, as Los Angeles cruised to a 15-6 victory in Colorado using seven pitchers in the process.

After scoring 8 runs in last Sunday’s bullpen game against the Astros and another 7 in the effort Wednesday against the Padres (albeit not a true bullpen game, but whatever), the Dodgers jumped on the Rockies early with four runs off of starter Ryan Castellani.

Adding four more off of Castellani in the 5th, Los Angeles gave its bullpen plenty of insurance even while playing in Coors.

Finishing the night with 17 hits and and going 8-for-14 with runners in scoring position, it was as one might expect in Coors as the Dodgers locked up the “crucial” home field in the Wild Card round.

The 2nd inning included a pair of 400-foot, two-run homers for the Dodgers, first from Cody Bellinger before Gavin Lux launched one of his own.

With Max Muncy at first following a leadoff walk, Bellinger lifted it out to right-center, sending a changeup 438 feet.

Lux topped that as he caught a slider getting a little too much of the plate after Edwin Rios had doubled to left.

I found it hilarious that a 453-foot homer was only a xBA of .940.

While the Rockies cut the lead to 4-3 with a three-run homer by Josh Fuentes off of Alex Wood in the 2nd, the Dodgers eventually tacked on plenty more in the 5th and 6th.

Loading the bases with a hit by pitch, walk and an error, the Dodgers hit four straight singles to extend the lead to 9-3.

A solo shot by Mookie Betts and a RBI double from Chris Taylor pushed the lead to 11-3.

The Rockies interrupted the Dodgers scoring barrage with three runs in the 6th, all charged to Dylan Floro. After allowing a single to open the inning, it looked like Floro might escape any trouble thanks to a double play.

However, a pair of two-out singles put runners on first and second for David Dahl. Falling behind 3-1, Floro served up a fourseamer down in the zone that Dahl sent to right for a two-run triple. Elias Diaz brought home Dahl with a once Floro had been replaced by Jake McGee.

And because this is Coors, the scoring continued on in the 7th. Bellinger opened the inning with a double, scoring two batters later on a single by Rios.

With Lux and Austin Barnes on base following a fielder’s choice and infield single, Betts continued his MVP caliber season with a two-run triple. Corey Seager brought Betts home with a single to push the lead to the final score of 15-6.

Now 37-15, the Dodgers face the Rockies again at 5:10 p.m. tomorrow looking for yet another series victory. Can we please just get to the postseason already…
