After shutting down a sizzling Mets offense to start the series with a win, the Dodgers effectively did the same tonight aside from a Pete Alonso solo homer, dominating the Mets behind Tyler Anderson in a 6-1 victory.
Also, tonight was LGBTQ Pride Night and the Dodgers honored Glenn Burke, a long overdue celebration. His brother, Sidney threw out the first pitch to Mookie Betts.
The Mets started Chris Bassitt tonight, who has been a rock solid rotation member for them in 2022. But it was the Dodgers the struck first in the game, with a Justin Turner single leading off the 2nd turned into two runs when Cody Bellinger yanked a pitch in his happy zone for his sixth homer of the year and a 2-0 lead.
After squandering a half-chance in the 3rd, the lineup added to the lead in the 4th behind a Chris Taylor single and then Edwin Rios replacement Zach McKinstry starring by yanking his first homer of the year to right to double the lead at 4-0.
Bassitt ended up making it through six innings, but the Dodgers were able to do enough damage against him.
Amusingly enough, the guy that ended up giving me pause at calling Tony Gonsolin the ace of the Dodgers wasn’t any of their more famous pitchers, but Tyler Anderson. He had one hiccup this year that Gonsolin didn’t have, but other than that he’s been just as consistently excellent.
Coming into the game riding a 20-inning scoreless streak, Anderson ended up extending that figure to 26. He basically cruised to it as well against a quality lineup, with 1-2-3 frames in three innings and never facing a batter with a RISP all game.
Anderson lowered his ERA to 2.59 in the process, just outstanding: 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB (1 HBP), 5 K, 81 Pitches.
Amusingly, it took Yency Almonte all of one pitch in the 7th to give up a run, an absolute bomb to left from Pete Alonso. But he settled in after that with three outs in a row to keep things at 4-1.
The Mets pen also entered in the 7th and the Dodgers got the run Almonte surrendered right back. Mookie Betts singled and later with two outs, he stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Trea Turner immediately took advantage by legging out an infield single on the next pitch to score Mookie and make it 5-1.
The Dodgers added another in the 8th behind Taylor’s 6th homer of the year, pushing the lead to 6-1.
Caleb Ferguson is back and he was given the 8th, but while his stuff looked good the command was still off as he issued as many walks as he got outs: 2.
Daniel Hudson was tasked with escaping that mini-jam, and he did that with a groundout. Hudson was then given the opportunity to complete the save in the 9th, which he did with two strikeouts, then allowing a killjoy single, before getting a fly out to end it.

35-17 now and they maintain a 4-game lead in the NL West over the Padres.
The Dodgers and Mets do it again tomorrow at 4:10 PM HT/7:10 PM PT/10:10 PM ET with Walker Buehler facing David Peterson.
Staff ace righty Tony Gonsolin and staff ace lefty Tyler Anderson are out of the way for the Mets now. Much more hope against the questionable righty and lefty duo of Walker Buehler and Julio Urias.
