The Dodgers started off their road trip with a solid 8-2 win over the Giants last night. Meanwhile, the entirety of the NL West had a ton of activity before the 3 PM deadline today. The Giants traded Darin Ruf to the Mets and Curt Casali to the Mariners. The Padres traded for Josh Hader, Juan Soto, Josh Bell, and Brandon Drury. Most importantly, the Dodgers traded Jake Lamb to the Mariners, Mitch White to the Blue Jays, and traded for Joey Gallo of the Yankees. Like I said, a lot going on. Tonight features two lefties, current Dodger Tyler Anderson against former Dodger Alex Wood.

The Dodgers’ run out their usual top four of the lineup, with Will Smith as the designated hitter. The lineup looks a little odd with Hanser Alberto batting fifth, but as team waits for Joey Gallo and potentially Miguel Vargas, the lineup is a little lopsided without Justin Turner or Jake Lamb.
Hopefully in Seattle, Lamb has an opportunity to get somewhat regular at bats like he was getting with the Dodgers. Similar to the Mitch White deal, there will be a roster crunch coming up with so many people ready to come off of the injured list. I liked White and he deserves to be on an a Major League roster and not have to worry about getting sent down to AAA anymore. It does feel like an unnecessarily risky move, moving a 3.70 ERA swingman starter who has made ten starts for the team with two main starters Dustin May and eventually Walker Buehler still TBD. Lamb ends his 25 game stint with the Dodgers with a slash line of .239/.338/.433, a .770 OPS and 121 wRC+ in 77 plate appearances with two home runs. Joey Gallo will likely take the role of hitting vs. right-handed pitching, but hopefully Lamb sees a revitalization of his career and maintains opportunities for a young Mariners team.

Here’s how Anderson and Wood matchup among 70 starters with at least 100 innings.
Anderson (11-1) allowed four hits and hit one batter while striking out four over seven shutout innings to earn his eleventh win Thursday over the Rockies. During a stretch of strong offense, he had a 2-0 lead before he even stepped on the mound, and the Dodgers’ offense continued to pile on while he kept the Rockies’ bats quiet. This was Anderson’s fifth straight quality start, and in that span, he’s allowed just four earned in 32.1 innings. His impressive pitching in July has lowered his ERA to 2.61 with a 0.99 WHIP and 91 strikeouts to just 19 walks through 110.1 innings in 19 appearances (17 starts).
For Wood, he allowed two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out three in 6.2 innings to also earn a win in his most recent outing. He put two runners on base in the first inning but went unscathed and carried a no-hitter in the seventh inning. He allowed a single to Ian Happ and a two-run home run to Patrick Wisdom, but that was all the scoring the Cubs mustered as Wood snapped the Giants’ seven-game losing streak. He’s had some uneven performances lately and ends July with just five earned runs allowed in 27.1 innings across five starts. He’s having yet another solid season for the Giants.

Despite a relatively quiet deadline for the Dodgers, Andrew Friedman continuously shows that he knows what he’s doing. The team is on pace to win 105-110 games, the need for additions isn’t as strong as it has been in the past.
