On this episode of “Dugout Blues,” Jared Massey (Dodger Blue) and I ring in the new (baseball) year, as opening day is today! Oh, and it’s our 150th episode, which doesn’t seem possible.
The opening day roster was announced. There were a couple surprises, but nothing major. The most pleasant surprise was the fact actual friend-of-the-show Ross Stripling got the nod for the fifth starter spot. That’s really cool.
Jared and I gave our predictions for the 2016 season. They’re probably going to be wrong, so make sure you let us know at the end of the season. Spoiler alert: Neither of us have the Dodgers winning the World Series.
Some minor-league assignments were announced by the teams and players themselves. So far, the assignments for hitters has been aggressive. Brendon Davis and Omar Estevez — both 18 years old — are both going to Low-A Great Lakes, while Willie Calhoun and Alex Verdugo are going to Tulsa. I like the aggressiveness.
Jose De Leon might be held back in Arizona for a time because the Dodgers want to monitor his innings this season. I understand it, but I just wish they’d let him pitch (same goes for Julio Urias).
You’ll notice we have two sponsors (yes, we’re sellouts): FanDuel and No Halftime. If you’re a new user, use the promo code “dugout” for a special offer (on both sites, I believe).
To close, a Q&A session that was decent. Please keep the questions coming.
