Podcast: ‘Dugout Blues’ episode 170 – Urias, offense good, Kershaw back?

On this episode of “Dugout Blues,” Jared Massey (Dodger Blue) and I review your first-place Los Angeles Dodgers. That’s right, the Dodgers are in first place. DEAL WITH IT.

Not sure if y’all knew, but Julio Urias is really good. He tossed six shutout innings in his start on Sunday. He doesn’t have that many innings left on the season. If only his development hadn’t been bungled the last two seasons…

The offense is on an incredible roll, led by guys like Justin Turner, Corey Seager and Adrian Gonzalez. Seager is a legit MVP candidate, while Gonzalez is rediscovering his power stroke. That’s great considering the pitching has been … less than good.

Brett Anderson has been awful since returning from back surgery. There’s a very good chance Ross Stripling starts in his spot on Thursday.

Clayton Kershaw had a bullpen session. He’s to have another bullpen session. Shit just got real.

Rich Hill might also be ready — as soon as Wednesday. This is not a drill … we think.

On the farm, some guy named Yasiel Puig is making a mockery of Triple-A pitching. Doesn’t mean he’ll be back, though. Yadier Alvarez is still doing good things for the Loons, while Trevor Oaks is trying to make a name for himself with the OKC Dodgers. Willie Calhoun is hitting all of the home runs in Double-A, while we discuss why Jose De Leon hasn’t been — and might not be — called up this season.

To close, we have a solid Q&A session. Please keep them coming.
