Dodgers 11, Braves 2: Max Muncy’s 3-dong night supports a dominant Tyler Glasnow

The Dodgers are rolling right now, as the offense exploded on the Braves tonight with five homers in an easy 11-2 victory after last night’s extra-inning nail-biter. Three of those were from Max Muncy, and Tyler Glasnow struck out 10.

That’s now a series win over one of the best team’s in the league, three wins in a row, and 10 wins in the last 12. Machine seems to be getting underway now.

Speaking of machines, Tyler Glasnow was on the mound for the Dodgers, and he continued his dominant year that’s establishing himself as an undoubted ace.

He started dominant, retiring the first nine batters he faced, including some silly pitches for strikeouts.

The shutout unfortunately came to an end in the 4th, as Ronald Acuna Jr. broke up the perfecto with a single, stole second, and then scored on an Austin Riley single. However, Glasnow worked around that trouble, struck out three batters in both the 5th and 6th, which helped him work around a double and a double and a walk, respectively.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t work around another double in the 7th, as it was cashed in by a pair of groundouts to plate a second Braves run. Didn’t matter much, as he had a big lead by then, and Glasnow completed his outing by helping the depleted pen save their best arms.

7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 10 K, 96 Pitches

Speaking of a big lead, the unfortunate recipient of a humming Dodgers offense was Bryce Elder, who got a nice start with a 1-2-3 frame. However, the scoring started suddenly in the 2nd, as Will Smith walked and Max Muncy followed by ripping his sixth homer of the year for a 2-0 lead.

They stranded a further walk and single in the inning, but scored in the 3rd again behind Shohei Ohtani yanking his eighth homer of the year to make it 3-0. That helps him pass Dave Roberts for the most homers for a Japanese-born player in team history.

But it was the 4th that represented their biggest inning. Andy Pages stayed red hot, hitting his fourth homer of the year.

Later, both James Outman and Mookie Betts reached on a walk, and Shohei Ohtani poked a single to left to plate a run and knock Elder out. The pen didn’t provide relief, though, as Freddie Freeman and Will Smith had back-to-back singles to drive in two more and make it seven runs on the night.

After a quiet couple of innings, it was Muncy again in the 7th, smashing his seventh homer of the year to push the lead to 8-2.

The Dodgers weren’t done, as Pages got his second hit with a single, Outman walked, and after they advanced a base, they were both driven in by a Mookie Betts blooper that Ozzie Albies couldn’t find to push the lead to 10-2.

Amazingly, Muncy wasn’t done for the night either, as in the 8th he poked his third of the game and eighth of the year to tie for the team lead and make it 11-2.

To start closing the game out was Gus Varland out of the pen in the 8th, who worked around a single and a walk in his score less frame.

J.P. Feyereisen then got the 9th, and even he got a clean frame, so everything was going right.

22-13 all of a sudden. Over 100-win pace.

The Dodgers will go for the sweep of the Braves tomorrow, a bit early unfortunately (for me) at 10:10 AM HT/1:10 PM PT/4:10 PM ET. It’ll be James Paxton looking to not be terrible against future Dodger Max Fried.
