Dodgers 7, Brewers 2: The Gavins lead the charge to 5 straight wins

Gavin Lux homered to continue his resurgence and Gavin Stone finally had a quality start to lead the Dodgers to a 7-2 victory over the Brewers. The win made it five straight for a team that’s suddenly getting healthy and is uncoincidentally hot.

Brewers starter Colin Rea started well by retiring the first five batters of the game, but he couldn’t make it six, as Will Smith drilled a solo shot with two down in the 2nd for an early 1-0 lead.

The Dodgers scored again in the 3rd in the same fashion, as with two down Shohei Ohtani lined his 37th dong of the year to right for a 2-0 lead.

On the other end was Stone, looking to right the ship a bit after a while in rocky waters. He faced trouble early, having to navigate around a double in the 1st and a hit batter and single in the 2nd, but it was a simple William Contreras homer in the 3rd that finally got to him and cut the lead to 2-1.

No worries, as the Dodgers came right back. A Teoscar Hernandez single started the 4th, and Lux unleashed a homer to make it 4-1.

Another rally got started behind a Will Smith single and Miguel Rojas double, which was followed by an Enrique Hernandez sac fly and an Andy Pages homer that went off the foul pole to make it 7-1.

The bats didn’t do much the rest of the game, but it wasn’t all that necessary anyway.

Meanwhile, Stone settled in, striking out the side in the 4th and getting a clean 5th to end his outing in dominant fashion: 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 6 K, 86 Pitches.

Presumably they didn’t need to push him because Landon Knack was backing him up, and he got a clean 6th. The 7th wasn’t as neat, as a couple of singles put him in some trouble. It looked like he’d escape it after inducing a weak grounder with two outs, but it went for an infield single to cut the lead to 7-2.

Knack hit a batter in the 8th, but got a clean frame in the 9th to make the dreams of at least one Dodger fan come true.
