After a pair of games that didn’t have a ton of tension late into the contest, today was much more of a back-and-forth affair that came down to the wire. Thankfully it was the Dodgers that came up with the big swings and pitches, as Andy Pages‘ homer made the difference in a 5-4 victory that gave them a series over the Giants as well.

With all the mess at the start of the game when the Giants traded for Rafael Devers with a package that included scheduled starter Kyle Harrison, the Dodgers ended up facing Sean Hjelle instead. They ended up striking first in the 1st behind singles from Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman, then a walk from Teoscar Hernandez that loaded the bases, and a Pages sac fly to make it 1-0.
Tommy Edman added on in the 2nd with his 10th homer of the year to double the lead to 2-0.

Meanwhile, Dustin May ran into a lot of traffic early but mostly navigated around it. After a clean 1st, he gave up a pair of walks and a bunt single to load the bases in the 2nd, but got a pop-out to keep things scoreless.
After hitting a batter in the 3rd, May had a bad run in the 4th. With two down and against the bottom of the lineup, he gave up a pair of singles, hit a batter, and gave up a triple to flip the game around for a three-run outburst that gave the Giants a 3-2 lead.

Fortunately, it was the Dodgers who struck next, as a pair of singles in the 6th from Shohei and Mookie Betts was followed by a pair of outs, but Pages came up big with a three-run homer, his 13th of the year. 5-3 Dodgers.

From there it was mostly smooth sailing for May and the pen. May made it through six after notably navigating around a bases-loaded jam in the 5th, and Alex Vesia got a scoreless 7th.
Kirby Yates did give up a homer in the 8th to make it 5-4, thanks in large part to CB Bucknor botching a strike three call on the batter that homered, but Tanner Scott locked down the one-run lead in the 9th with a dominant showing.
