Well … the Dodgers have now dropped five straight games after once again not being able to find the big blow in the few chances they’re actually able to create. They got behind with a bit of bad luck, but really it’s obviously hard to win when you score just one run, as they drop this one 3-1 to the Brewers.

The bad news, phenom Jacob Misiorowski struck out the side in the 1st. The good news, Shohei Ohtani led the game off with his 31 dinger of the year to make it 1-0 early.

Miz then struck out the side in the 1st and did the same in the 2nd despite a two-out single. In front of the top of the order, a lead-off double started the 3rd, but that was also stranded. He then rebounded with a clean 4th frame, amazingly his first of the game.

On the other end, Clayton Kershaw was on the mound, providing an amusing contrast of styles. Things were going smoothly for him through three innings, as he surrendered just an infield single over those frames.
Unfortunately that didn’t last, as the 4th was a frustrating affair. Kershaw gave up five singles in the inning, three of which were beaten into the ground and one of which was a blooper, but they all count the same and two runs game in to give the Brewers a 2-1 lead.

Kershaw did rebound for a clean 5th, and also worked around a one-out HBP and walk in the 6th. Quite frankly, he was unlucky things weren’t even better: 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 3 K, 85 Pitches.

Meanwhile, Miz was still in the game and now pitching with the lead. He got a clean 5th, but the key chance against him for the Dodgers came in the 6th, when Ohtani worked a lead-off walk and Mookie Betts managed an infield single after getting jammed to put a pair on. Freddie Freeman then grounded a ball hard down the line, but a diving stop led to an out even though both runners advanced.
Still with a prime scoring chance, Andy Pages grounded a hung slider to third, which induced a great play by Andruw Monasterio to get Ohtani at home.
Now with two down, a Michael Conforto groundout ended the threat with a wimper.
For the most part, though, The Miz simply lived up to the hype.

In relief of Kershaw, Alex Vesia got a clean 7th but Kirby Yates struggled. He gave up a homer to Sal Frelick to make it 3-1, then added on a single and walk for more trouble.

However, he got a strike ’em out throw ’em out double play that helped prevent even worse.
Didn’t matter much, really. The Brewers pen started in the 7th and got nine straight to end it.
