More on those rings at the end of the post.
Despite the distractions — a good one to have — the Dodgers fought and got a close one with the Diamondbacks. They got behind early again before surging ahead in the middle innings again, but this time the D-backs fought back to tie things up. That’s when Kyle Tucker gave the Dodgers the lead late and Edwin Diaz slammed the door on a 5-4 victory.
======
Starter Emmet Sheehan was nasty early, striking out the side thanks to great tunnelling and the first ABS challenge in Dodgers history by Will Smith.

That didn’t last all that long, though, as a single and walk started the 2nd. After Sheehan got the next two to put him on the verge, Alek Thomas doubled down the line in right to score one run, but it was not two thanks to a relay from Kyle Tucker to Alex Freeland to Dills.

In the 3rd, Ketel Marte doubled the lead with a homer to right that made it 2-0 D-backs for the second straight night.

Meanwhile, D-backs starter Ryne Nelson had issued just a walk through the first two frames and looked sharp. That didn’t matter much as the Dodgers machine exploded in the 3rd.
After Andy Pages just missed a homer for the first out, Alex Freeland unloaded on a ball to right for his first homer of the year in his first start of the year.

The top of the order followed with back-to-back eight-pitch walks from Shohei Ohtani and Kyle Tucker, then Mookie Betts drilled a fastball up-and-away from him into the oppo gap for a three-run shot to make it 4-2 just like that.

Back to Sheehan, who didn’t post a shutdown inning in the 4th. Instead he issued a lead-off walk on a 3-2 count, got a strikeout on a 3-2 count, and then gave up a double on a 3-2 count to end his night.
Not a huge deal since it was basically his last Spring Training start, but definitely not at his best: 3.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 6 K, 83 pitches.
Emmet Sheehan had issues maintaining his stuff and command in spring, something they attributed to some mechanical stuff he was working through.

Emmet was charged with four runs because Jack Dreyer entered and gave up a double to Alek Thomas that scored two and tied things up at 4-4. He did get thrown out at third after another successful relay, and Dreyer ended the inning a batter later, but the damage was done.
Continuing on, Dreyer then got a clean 5th before handing things off to Ben Casparius in the 6th. He gave up a lead-off single but got the next two, before issuing a walk to put a pair on. Tanner Scott then entered after a successful frame last night and got a key strikeout of Thomas.

Alex Vesia gave up a one-out single in the 7th, but that was it.

Then Edgardo Henriquez got a pair of infield pops and a strikeout for a clean 8th.

The Dodgers offense? MIA.
Nelson got through the 4th and got two outs in the 5th before their beleaguered pen entered. All they did was continue to post zeroes in the 6th and 7th frames, and other than the four batters in a row that reached in the 3rd, only a Max Muncy walk prevented them from being perfect other than that.
Thankfully, the 8th led through a breakthrough, as Alex Freeland doubled to start the inning, Shohei moved him over on a grounder, and Kyle Tucker singled to drive in the go-ahead run.

Tucker later stole second and got to third on a throwing error, but was stranded there, as he continues to make his mark with the Dodgers.
So, with the lead, of course it was Edwin Diaz in the 9th to protect the one-run lead. He started his Dodgers career with a strikeout, but then issued a full-count walk to Thomas, who promptly stole second. No matter, Diaz rebounded with another strikeout, and then got Ketel Marte to groundout to end it.

Also, Andy Pages’ catch last night had a 5% probability.
